Wesley Kids in Schools is designed to improve mental health literacy and adaptive coping skills in children. The Wesley Kids in Schools program is offered to selected primary schools in South East Queensland through an Expression of Interest process.
Wesley Kids in Schools is a mental wellbeing psychoeducational program for primary school students in grades 3-6.
The program provides children the opportunity to name, question and talk openly about their feelings whilst practising different techniques to self-regulate, express emotion, and realise their strengths.
Improving mental health literacy and strengthening the adaptive coping skills of children in primary school reduces the likelihood of developing severe mental health problems through adolescence and into adulthood.

[Music] hi I'm Nikki and I'm a well-being consultant with Wesley Kids.

Today we are here at a school in South Brisbane and we're talking to school-age children about mental health and well-being

For me early intervention is really really important and if we can equip the kids to
0:18
learn how to think about their feelings and name them and what they can do to help themselves or
0:25
even help their friends if they're going through something really difficult and especially living
0:29
up to their high school years and then into adulthood I think yeah that would be really cool
0:36 [PIPER, WORKSHOP PARTICIPANT]
the sessions were interesting because I learned new things and I learned how to do those new things
0:41
I feel like I can be myself around people because I know that feelings are okay and even
0:49
though I'm feeling something different to other people that's okay too
0:53
my favorite session today was the meditation because we got to lie down and relax and it really helped me
1:01
calm down and I felt really relaxed after it
1:04
the people from Wesley kids are very nice and kind and they're caring
1:08
and they showed me lots of new things that I didn't know before

The best thing I've learned today is you can feel any emotion that you want no matter which one it
0:15
is and I learned how to control your emotions and know which one you're feeling at which time
0:24
today I found the pause, breathe smile strategy. And I’ve also found the body scan strategy
0:33
and we've done meditation
0:39
I have used the pause, breathe smile strategy at home when I'm with my brother.
