Child in the pool in a one-on-one hydrotherapy session in Brisbane funded by NDIS

Welcome

Our hydrotherapy facility has a private pool where a qualified physiotherapist will work with your child one-on-one. It is a modern, noise-reduced sensory environment facility in Chermside. This service can also be funded by your NDIS package.
Physiotherapist, Laura] I provide hydrotherapy and physiotherapy to children with disabilities and life limiting conditions.
The physical properties of the water really help kids with disabilities so a lot of them have movement limitations and the buoyancy of the water is great for them as well as the temperature is probably our main thing. So it sits at about 34 degrees which is quite warm. And then it's also really good for things like balance and movement training and relaxation is one of our biggest things that we provide. We provide one on one sessions with the children. Children get in the pool with me as the physio and families are also welcome
to get in as well.

We work one on one with the kids in the pool depending on their physical abilities. They may need a specific program in the pool to work on balance or strength training or even pain management. It is a really tailored program depending on their physical needs. So we have a ceiling hoist which runs from the bathroom straight into the pool. We also have a very sensory tailored room, so we've got music and lights depending on what the child likes, whether it's a fun upbeat session or whether it's a relaxation session, we can tailor that to their specific needs.

[Zoe’s Mum, Sarah] So Zoey's been coming here for hydrotherapy for nearly two years. There's a wide range of benefits for her. Everything from it helps her muscles to relax and to do a bit of stretching and things in the pool that she can't do when she's on land.
It also gives her a chance to have fun, interact with other people and to get out of the house and do a bit of exercise it's kind of quite a beneficial program for her all over.

[Physiotherapist, Laura] Children who have access to the NDIS, can use their NDIS funding to access hydrotherapy. We welcome anyone from age zero to 18 to access our pool.

Aquatic Physiotherapy, or hydrotherapy as it is also known, is one of the many therapeutic interventions available for children with a disability.

Hydrotherapy is water-based therapy in which physiotherapist use the   physical properties of heated water to improve flexibility, mobility, fitness and strength, while also reducing pain and swelling.

  • Joint pain
  • Flexibility
  • Balance
  • General movement
  • Walking
  • Post Joint Replacement rehabilitation
Whether your child has cerebral palsy, an acquired brain injury, autism, a seizure disorder, Down syndrome, Spina Bifida, Muscular Dystrophy, SMA, cancer, a hypermobility syndrome or pain associated with arthritis, hydrotherapy has something to offer.
  • Warm water increases blood flow to soothe joint stiffness and muscle pain
  • Buoyancy can provide relief for weight-bearing areas or joints
  • Viscosity of water provides resistance for muscle strengthening
  • Promotes relaxation
  • Water can be an excellent environment for balance retraining

We provide Hydrotherapy to children aged 0-18, who live with a complex physical disability:

  • Live with a disability
  • Have neurological deficits
  • Require pain management support
