Cyclone Alfred update

Changes to Community aged care, CHSP and Home Care Services, and other key information.

We will continue to provide regular updates to customers. Please check this page for any service changes. Stay informed with weather forecasts, take necessary precautions, and stay safe.

As you would be aware, Tropical Cyclone Alfred is currently located off the Queensland coast and is forecast to track towards southeast Queensland. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has warned this could result in damaging or destructive wind gusts and isolated heavy rainfall, which may cause flash flooding, from late Thursday through until the weekend.

Change to services

Wesley Mission Queensland has a dedicated response team monitoring the situation and responding as required.

Unfortunately with the safety of staff and clients in mind, all QCSS and Community aged care services have been reduced to essential services only from Thursday 6 March to Monday 10 March.

  • All in home visits (apart from essential services) for QCSS and Community Aged care clients are being cancelled from Thursday 6 March to Monday 10 March. We are hoping to resume regular activities on Tuesday 11 March once safe to do so.
  • Essential home and community care services (such as personal care and medication support) will operate as long as staff can safely get to the location.
  • Community Transport Service will be closed Thursday 6 March to Monday 10 March. Hoping to reopen Tuesday 11 March.
  • Home Assist Secure will be closed on Thursday 6 March and Friday 7 March.
  • Respite: Arana Hill Respite, Hyland House Respite, Hadden Place Respite and Balmoral Uniting Community Centre (BUCC) are closed on Thursday 6 March and Friday 7 March.

To help prepare please also consider:

• Watching emerging weather patterns by monitoring the BOM website at www.bom.gov.au/qld
• Ensuring you have enough supplies, medications, flashlights and bottled water should they be required
• Ensure your phone, iPad, laptop and power packs are charged
• Have your vehicle fully fuelled
• If it’s flooded, forget it
• Always follow the advice of emergency services if told to evacuate or if directed to stay where you are.

We will continue to keep you updated on any changes or please feel free to contact 1800 448 448 if you have any questions.
