Considering the current COVID-19 pandemic WesleyCare Tewantin, our supported accommodation community, has put measures in place to support local businesses.

Manager of WesleyCare Tewantin Kirin Hagicostas, says they’ve adjusted their usual buying of goods to support local businesses in their community.

“We used to purchase a lot of our food from major supermarkets like Coles or Woolworths. Since the pandemic came into place we thought it would be best start buying our fruit and vegetable from Cooroy Harvest Fresh and Tewantin Market Garden. We’ve also been purchasing our meat from the Outlook Butcher shop and baked goods from Outlook Hot Bakery just around the corner from us,” says Kirin.

“I had a conversation with each of these local businesses and they get their goods from local farmers as well.

“It’s nice to be able to connect and give our support to people in the community. We all need to come together as one during this time and get through to the other end.”

Tewantin Market Garden said, “Thank you for shopping local, I hope that everything that you have been buying has been great. We appreciate the support right now.”

WesleyCare Tewantin is home to six people living with disability. Staff, residents and families have had to make changes over the last few weeks, including visitation restrictions and ceasing social outings however, everyone is persevering and keeping their spirits high, with staff and residents brainstorming creative ways to keep themselves entertained while in confinement. Some activities have been altered to suit the residents and their regular activities.

“We are such a close-knit community here at WesleyCare Tewantin and we are working with residents and their families to stay connected and keep a sense of normality around our usual routines.”
